There is always this one book that defies all your expectations and shatters all your predictions. This is that book!
“We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart is a beautiful narrative that is sure to melt your heart with its teenage romance and a tragedy that will haunt you forever.
Characters
The characters in the book, the four liars are described by the author herself as
- Mirren: She is sugar, she is curiosity and Rain
- Johnny: He is bounce, he is effort and snark
- Gat: He is contemplation and enthusiasm. Ambition and Strong Coffee.
- Cady (Cadence): A visionary, a heroine, a rebel. The kind of person who changes history

And as to the fact that, why they are called liars, we are not sure. The narrative hardly provides any evidence.
Beyond the primary characters, there is a host of others whose interactions add depth and complexity to the plot. The Enigmatic grandfather, the greedy moms, and the non-existent fathers!
Plot
The narrator Cadence is the oldest grandkids of Harris Sinclair. She is damaged physically and mentally, by a mysterious accident that keeps coming up in the narrative.
The story is all about the liars, and their summer vacation get-togethers in the Beechwood island with their grandparents. It revolves around the family, their secrets, and the terrible tragedy that shatters the very fabric of the Sinclair’s, and sends Cadence into a spiral of migraines and lifelong regrets.
Parting words
The story is well-paced and had me turning pages at crazy speeds. There is always an air of mystery hanging in the narrative that captivates readers and transports them to the world of the Sinclair’s.
A must-read for everybody who reads about love, heartbreaks, and mystery.
